Please allow 48 hours
for papers sent Monday through Thursday and longer for those sent over a
weekend. Also note that resources permit us at present to work only with DCCCD
students enrolled in certain writing courses.
Online Writing Lab Consultants will read and comment on short
papers (8 pages maximum), but like all writing centers, we do follow certain
guidelines. Please read the following carefully before submitting your paper.
You can help us work more effectively with you by providing the
following:
 | A copy of your writing assignment |
 | A thoroughly edited and proofed copy of your paper (otherwise, you
will frighten us needlessly with careless errors, and we will waste your
time by giving you advice you don't need) |
 | Questions you have about the paper |
 | Any problems you've had writing the essay |

When we receive your paper, a writing consultant will read
and respond as follows:
 | Answer questions you asked |
 | Provide advice about problems you mentioned |
 | Remind you of one or two of the most effective elements in your
paper |
 | Identify one or two sentence-level problems (grammar and
mechanics) and steer you to on-line handouts that will help you correct
those kind of errors in this and later papers |
 | Identify one or two conceptual issues such as organization,
support, development which might be revised for a more effective paper and
then suggest some revision options |
 | Tell you how to locate any resources that will help you to write
more effectively. |

Our goal in the On-line Writing Center is to
assist you in learning strategies and acquiring resources which will help you
become an independent and effective communicator whether in the classroom, in
the workplace, or in private life. You probably don't want us to write your
love letters, we can't trail you to work and do your business reports, and,
similarly, we can't do your academic work for you. We must, then, insist that
we will not do the following:
 | Proofread or edit your papers |
 | Identify every error or problem |
 | Respond to more than two versions of the same assignment |
 | Comment on what letter grade the paper merits or whether
a letter grade received was appropriate |

Papers will be sent as an attachment to e-mail. These files
must be in a word processing format (e.g. Microsoft Word, Word Perfect, etc.).
The following information is required at the top of your paper in order to get
a response to your work.
- Name
- E-mail address
- Student ID number
- Campus currently enrolled
- Class the paper is for
- Date the paper is due
- Other English/writing classes taken
- Any specific questions you have about your paper
Note: Please remember
that at present only students enrolled in certain DCCCD/Dallas TeleCollege
distance learning courses are allowed to submit papers. |
